City Council Stands Up for Colorado Springs’ Right to Local Control in State Housing Dispute

The Colorado Springs City Council has formally supported home rule municipalities that are challenging new state housing mandates in Colorado. In a recent resolution, the Council stated its position on the city’s right to self-governance. Colorado Springs joined six other cities—Greenwood Village, Arvada, Aurora, Glendale, Lafayette, and Westminster—in opposing House Bills 24-1304 and 24-1313, as well as Executive Orders D 2025 005 and 011.

Council President Pro Tem Brian Risley said the state’s actions affect local decision-making and community standards.
