Portland couple go all-in on neighborhood Halloween show, driven to see ‘everyone’s faces light up’

In the heart of Portland in 1927, a beloved and macabre traveling sideshow – featuring a three-foot-tall woman, co-joined sisters and a fire eater – delighted audiences near Union Station. But on a cold autumn evening, an electrical storm caused a catastrophic fire, killing all the performers of the Roseway Freakshow.

They were buried at the Roseway Cemetery in Northeast Portland, each grave marked with a simple stone.

Thus begins a fictitious tale, the underpinning of an elaborate haunt in Northeast Portland that draws numerous visitors seeking an old-fashioned scare and a good story…
