Emergency repairs forces HECO to shut off power to about 1,000 customers in Waikiki

HONOLULU (KHON2) — About a thousand customers in Waikiki were without power parts of Wednesday as Hawaiian Electric worked on emergency repairs. Most of those affected are residents. But some businesses have also been impacted, saying the timing couldn’t be worse.

The beloved Chart House Waikiki sits dark and empty. At this hour, it’s usually prep time. But because of a power outage in Waikiki, they’ll likely close Wednesday night and lose out on more than 100 reservations.

“Oh, that’s bad, that’s bad,” said Scott Okamoto, Chart House Waikiki General Manager. “And you know times have been not too busy, so every dollar counts now.”

The affected area spans from the McCully Street and Kalakaua Avenue intersection down to the Ala Moana Boulevard and Hobron Lane intersection…
