Food Drive 25th Anniversary: Guidelines for Food Donations

Every day, the Second Harvest Food Bank receives food and monetary donations to help serve people in eleven counties.

They receive food from other community partners, restaurants, grocery stores, and community members who may decide to hold a food donation drive or donate food items they may not be using.

The food bank always appreciates any donations they receive, but before someone makes a donation, there’s a few guidelines to keep in mind.

As Greg Hall, the CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank explained, “I try to tell people if you wouldn’t serve it yourself, I’m not going to give it to our neighbors. If you go to our website, nwpafoodbank.org. It can help someone go through that pantry and figure out what types of foods they can donate, because some foods we can take beyond expiration, others we cannot. Certain items like homemade foods, we cannot take. But we love the passion and our folks are thinking about our neighbors in need.”…
