5 charged in overdose death of Robert De Niro’s grandson

NEW YORK (PIX11) — Five people have been indicted in the overdose deaths of Robert De Niro’s grandson and the daughter of Blondie’s Chris Stein in 2023, authorities and sources said Thursday.

Grant McIver, aka “Dizzy”, Bruce Epperson, aka “Tea”, Eddie Barreto, John Nicolas, aka “John John”, and Roy Nicolas were arrested in connection with the deaths of Leandro DeNiro Rodriguez, 19, and Akira Stein, according to prosecutors and law enforcement sources. Sophia Marks was previously charged with selling the drugs that caused the teen’s death.

The men are accused of distributing thousands of pills laced with fentanyl to young adults in New York City, including the two victims, according to court records and sources.

The defendants allegedly used social media, like Instagram and TikTok, to promote and sell the drugs from January 2023 to July 2023, prosecutors said. Three 19-year-olds died from an overdose that summer, including De Niro Rogriguez in July 2023…
