LUBBOCK, Texas— The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit announced on its social media page on Thursday that it solved the 16-year-old murder of Christopher Perez, who was murdered at a bar in East Lubbock back in 2009.

According to a press release, Lubbock Police were initially called to Grace Medical Center around 2 a.m. on July 31, 2009, where officers located Perez, who died from multiple stab wounds suffered at a bar in the 50 block of East 34th Street.
During the investigation, the police received information that prompted them to search for a Hispanic male, estimated to be between 35 and 45 years old, as a potential suspect. The LPD Forensics Unit collected DNA evidence, which was sent to the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Lab. This effort led to the entry of a suspect profile into the FBI’s Combined DNA Index System. A DNA hit from the suspect matched that of Mexican national Javier Pando, 52.
