Outback Steakhouse Fans Say “Crikey!” as Locations Close Across the U.S.
For some fans of the iconic Bloomin’ Onion, the bloom is officially off the rose. Outback Steakhouse, the popular Aussie-themed eatery, has announced the closure of several locations across the United States, including two in its home state of Florida.
The closures stem from Bloomin’ Brands, the Tampa-based parent company, which confirmed that multiple Outback Steakhouse restaurants are shuttering as part of an ongoing evaluation of underperforming stores.
According to a company spokesperson, these decisions were made following a “periodic review” of restaurant performance, taking into account factors like sales figures, customer traffic, and potential investment needs. The company also stated that employees from the affected locations were offered transfers to nearby restaurants whenever possible.
While a complete list of the latest closures has not been released by the company, local outlets and USA Today have confirmed the following locations:
- Birmingham, Alabama (20 Midtown and U.S. 280)
- Jacksonville Beach, Florida (3760 South 3rd Street)
- Naples, Florida (4910 U.S.
41 North)
- Baton Rouge, Louisiana (Jones Creek Boulevard)
- Silver Spring, Maryland (Ellsworth Place Mall)
- Merrick, New York (Merrick Mall)
- Madison, Wisconsin (E. Towne Boulevard; a nearby Bonefish Grill also closed)
Bloomin’ Brands, which also oversees Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, operates over 1,450 restaurants globally. This includes more than 670 Outback Steakhouses in the U.S. and approximately 350 international locations, primarily in Brazil and South Korea.
This isn’t the first time the company has trimmed its roster this year. In early 2024, Bloomin’ Brands closed over 40 restaurants nationwide, with the majority being Outback locations.
