Ohio’s most vulnerable citizens face a preventable hunger crisis

I applaud The Plain Dealer editorial board for their Oct. 29 editorial and its headline, “Ohio needs to act to avoid a hunger catastrophe should SNAP benefits end.” A Today in Ohio report published Oct. 25 on cleveland.com pointed out that “1.4 million Ohioans face hunger as government shutdown threatens SNAP benefits” – affecting potentially 190,000 of our most vulnerable neighbors in Cuyahoga County: seniors, veterans, pregnant women, people with disabilities and working families.

Sens. Jon Husted and Bernie Moreno need to take the moral high road, leave partisan politics aside and demand that the Trump administration release contingency funding that is available to fund the SNAP program so families can eat while the shutdown continues – an action that has been employed during previous government shutdowns, both Democratic and Republican…
