Dayton Humane Society offers support to pet owners affected by shutdown

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Humane Society of Greater Dayton is offering support to pet owners who have been affected by the government shutdown.

As the effects of the government shutdown continue to impact families across the Miami Valley, the humane society recognizes that many individuals are struggling to make ends meet. These financial hardships affect not just people, but also the pets who rely on them.

“As an organization, our mission centers on the care and welfare of animals in our community,” said Brian Weltge, the humane society president and CEO. “But we can’t fulfill that mission without also acknowledging and caring for the people behind those pets. Pets are vital to our mental health and emotional well-being, especially in stressful times, and by supporting families, we’re helping keep those important bonds intact.”
