Plum man builds massive Halloween yard display

A Plum Halloween yard is one of the greatest displays in the Pittsburgh area.

The big picture: Homeowner Ron Ferri joined the growing Halloween takeover trend three years ago after his father died in order to bring joy to his household. Blue Mist Manor, named for the big blue house, is hard to miss, amassing the entire corner of Saltsburg and O’Block roads.

Zoom in: Ferri’s collection has grown to nearly 70 pieces.

  • The setup is separated into three paths, with witches and ghouls leading you into the death traps of the clown circus that includes a homemade Ferris wheel and ticket booth.
  • Across the driveway is a full-on graveyard with animatronic ghosts that tell stories of their past lives and jump out when you walk past.

What they’re saying: Ferri thought about inviting neighbors to walk through via the Plum community Facebook group but was worried there wouldn’t be enough space for parking. Instead, he put out the decorations gradually so those who drive by can be delighted when they spot something new.

  • “Most people enjoy it. People put notes in my mailbox sometimes saying how much they appreciate the display,” Ferri tells Axios. “I enjoy the joy of the community. If most people didn’t appreciate it, I wouldn’t do it.”

Between the lines: Ferri says he gets his decorations from Spirit Halloween, Lowe’s, Home Depot and online — but only if they’re on sale…
