West Palm Beach, FLA. (WPEC) — Hurricane Melissa looks a little more organized. That means the storm is starting to form a clearer shape, with a center surrounded by strong thunderstorms. Because of this, Melissa’s winds are now estimated at around 105 miles per hour, which makes it a Category 2 hurricane.
Melissa is moving northeast pretty fast, about 21 miles per hour, and is expected to speed up even more over the next few days. The storm is being pushed by two big weather systems: one over the southeastern United States and another over the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Tonight, Melissa is expected to pass close to Bermuda, and people there are getting ready for strong winds and heavy rain. After that, the storm will head toward Newfoundland, which is a large island in eastern Canada. By the time it gets there on Friday night, Melissa will likely change from a tropical hurricane into a post-tropical cyclone.
