Annual Fundraiser to Raise Awareness About Youth Homelessness Saturday

(Des Moines, IA) — An annual event to raise awareness and money to combat youth homelessness in Iowa will take place on Saturday.

Hundreds are expected to attend the 20th annual Reggie’s Sleepout at Drake Stadium. Doors will open at noon on Saturday, November 1st. The event invites individuals, teams, and families to build a cardboard shelter and spend one night outdoors to help understand the challenges of homelessness. The goal for this year’s event is hosted by Iowa Homeless Youth Centers, which hopes to raise $500,000 to fund programs that offer help to homeless youth across Iowa.

There will be a contest cardboard shelter contest, with cardboard provided by Homemakers, though participants can bring their own as well. The event was named after Reggie Kelsey, a Des Moines youth who aged out of the foster care system, faced homelessness, and eventually lost his life…
