Over 2,000 Bald Eagles call Missouri home each winter, and their migration into the Show Me State has already begun. Bald Eagles begin to migrate into Missouri in late fall, reaching peak numbers from December to February, then migrating back north in the spring.
Bald Eagles weren’t always common in Missouri, however. The Bald Eagle was placed on the endangered species list in the mid-1970s. At this time, there were fewer than 500 pairs left in the wild in the US. Therefore, Bald Eagle numbers in Missouri were likely under 100.
Bald Eagle popualtions had recovered dramatically by the mid-1980s through conservation efforts, and today there are an estimated 100,000 pairs in the wild, with a total population of over 300,000 in the US…
