I remember as a kid my mom always tuning into the local news nightly, as it was between that and the newspaper the next morning if you wanted to stay informed about local events. Now, news is served to you on your socials, perhaps to the detriment of balanced, nuanced reporting, as you tend to get served more and more of whatever you already hovered over.

There is one segment I always watch, making the short trip to YouTube weekly. I value its insight, fairness, and dedication to the truth: KCBD’s Food For Thought. It has nothing to do with politics, national or worldwide news. It doesn’t include any opinions, only facts, and it doesn’t consider whether someone could be a potential advertiser.

Instead, Christy Hartin relays the publicly available top and low-performing restaurants that had food inspections throughout the week. She does this in a quick, authoritative, and informative way. Some weeks it’s an emotional rollercoaster, as I’ve discovered a place I’ve eaten at recently had egregious (and to me, terrifying) food safety violations.
