SNAP is going away in November – here are Denver area restaurants, food banks and farms offering resources

These restaurants are offering free meals until federal SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits are restored:

  1. Chicken Salad Chick, Littleton – Offering free meals to children under 12. One Kid’s Meal per child. Children must be present. Dine-in only. No purchase is necessary. Only valid at Aspen Grove location.
  1. Eat Here Bodega, Denver – Offering free meals to children 17 & under with SNAP card and 25% for adults for one meal per day. Free kids meal includes a hot dog or salad, chips and a Capri Sun.
  1. El Patron Mexican Restaurant, Denver – Offering free meals to kids under 12 every Saturday in November, dine-in only.
  1. Hogshead Brewery with Eat Here, Denver – Offering a cookout on Sunday Nov. 2, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. which includes a hot dog or salad, chips and a Capri Sun and cheesesteaks for sale.
  1. SAME Café, Denver – A participation-based model where guests volunteer time, donate money, or give produce in exchange for a meal. Meals are healthy, locally sourced and made from scratch.
  1. CAFE 180, Englewood – The restaurant runs on a donation and pay-it-forward model where 100% of meal proceeds go to feed those facing food insecurity. With the change of SNAP benefits in November and are expanding their pay-it-forward meal program with a “Full Heart Meal” which asks guests who can’t pay today to pay it forward by choosing one of their three “acts of kindness.”
  1. Sunday Salmon, Castle Rock – A no-cost, gluten-free, seed oil-free, organic, community restaurant open some Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and every Sunday with several community-style, with tables seating 10-12 guests. There are two dinner seatings at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
  2. Friendly Nick’s Butcher, Fort Collins – Offering 1 pound of ground beef, 1 pound of pork shoulder, 1 pound of chicken breast, 1 pound of chicken drums or wings and 1/2 dozen eggs all for free to those who bring their EBT or Federal ID card.
  1. Your Moms House Denver – Asking for food donations or King Soopers gift cards for those not in need in exchange for doubling the amount donated on a bar tab. For those in need, stop by Your Mom’s House in Denver with your EBT card in exchange for bags of food and King Soopers cards.
  1. The Pet Pantry – Asking for donations of dry and wet dog food and cat food as well as leashes, collars and bowls, grooming supplies, litter and flea and tick prevention. For assistance contact [email protected] for pickup and drop off of supplies.
  1. Tuff’s Ranch, Bennett – “The Outpost” at Tuff’s Ranch has been converted into a local food pantry running on a ‘take what you need, and leave what you can’ model and is always unlocked.
  1. Love Thy Neighbor, Aurora – Love Thy Neighbor food box pick-ups are every Saturday between the hours of 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Cross Culture Church in Aurora, no signup is necessary. First come first serve.
  1. Bienvenidos Food Bank, North Denver – Anyone and everyone welcome, serving mainly north Denver areas, only needing to provide a name and phone number which will not be shared but used to ensure that each household only visits once per week. Bring your own bags or boxes and food is distributed evenly, not on a first come first served basis.
  1. Hope Connection and Community in Action, Arvada – If you would like to donate, you can drop off any non-perishable food items to the HCC House located at: 5469 Reed Street. Arvada. HCC has implemented an action plan in anticipation of increased need due to the potential cut to SNAP benefits by only serving members of the Avada community on an appointment-only basis and handing out pre-made food bags containing shelf-stable items.
  1. Kaizen Food Rescue, Denver – Offering pop-up food sharing events around the Montbello area of Denver, but also offering a mobile food pantry with delivery options for those who need it offering a box of groceries including non-perishable items as well as fresh produce.
  1. We Don’t Waste, Denver – Offering mobile food markets, and supporting community-cased hunger-relief programs, We Don’t Waste partners with local restaurants, venues, caterers, distributors, producers, and institutions to decrease food waste by collecting unused food items to those in need.
  1. Feeding Colorado – Running multiple programs throughout the state, which cater specifically to each region, Feeding Colorado operates Food Bank of the Rockies, Care and Share, Community Food Share, Food Bank of Larimer County and the Weld Food Bank. The food banks offer mobile food pantries, before and after school hot meals and snacks, backpacks, emergency food boxes, food pantries, older adult programs, as well as cooking classes. They also offer a Food Bank Directory for those looking for food banks and pantries close to home.
  1. The Grow Haus, Denver – Due to the potential loss of SNAP funding in November, The Grow Haus is offering a Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program to support federal workers on furlough, people who have lost income or SNAP benefits, and others without reliable food access. You can register for the program here.
  1. Greater Park Hill Food Bank – Operating five no-cost community food programs including a Wednesday Food Pantry, a Weekend Food Program, a Garden-in-a-Box giveaway, a free seasonal Farm Stand and a Thanksgiving giveaway.
  1. Project Angel Hearts – Addressing food needs for those with severe illnesses by preparing and delivering medically tailored and nutritious meals made from scratch.
  2. Colorado Pet Pantry (multiple locations in Colorado) – Visit any pet food pantry, no need to register, just wait in line to recieve pet food once out of every three months.
