Cherriots Offers Free Rides to Food Banks During Federal Shutdown

Cherriots is offering free rides to food banks starting November 1 to support residents affected by SNAP delays during the ongoing federal government shutdown.

Salem, OR. – As the federal government shutdown continues to delay Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, Cherriots is launching temporary transportation support to help residents access essential food resources.

Starting November 1, 2025, riders traveling to and from food banks and food pantries will be able to ride free of charge. The initiative follows Cherriots’ previous efforts to support community members traveling to emergency warming and cooling centers and will remain in place for the duration of the shutdown.
