A 43-year-old Big Island man charged in connection with the traffic crash that caused the death of 47-year-old Anina Masaichy and a 3-week-old infant Oct. 23 near the 26-mile marker on Daniel K. Inouye Highway remains behind bars following his initial court hearing Oct. 30.
Hawai‘i County prosecuting attorney’s office reports Kimo K. Medeiros of Kurtistown was arrested in Honolulu by officers with the Extradition Detail – Criminal Investigation Division of Honolulu Police Department.
Medeiros made his initial appearance Oct. 30 via video in Hilo District Court. His bail was maintained at $1.511 million and he was ordered to appear Nov. 3 for a preliminary hearing.
Medeiros is charged with:
- 2 counts of manslaughter (recklessly caused the death of another person).
- 2 counts of first-degree negligent homicide (cause the death of another person by the operation of a motor vehicle in a negligent manner while under the influence of drugs, methamphetamine and/or cannabis and/or methylenedioxymethamphetamin, commonly known as MDMA).
- Third-degree promoting a dangerous drug (possess any amount of methamphetamine).
- Third-degree Promoting a Detrimental Drug.
