Developer proposes to transform Firestone clock tower, plant into new Akron police HQ

The singular proposal submitted to save Akron’s historic Firestone Plant 1 from demolition also aims to solve the city’s conundrum about what to do about a new home for the police department.

Amerimar Realty Company of Philadelphia — which in 2016 transformed a warehouse adjacent to the plant into the Russel M. Pry Building — has suggested turning the front bay of the Firestone plant at 1200 Firestone Parkway into Akron police’s new headquarters, including preservation of the landmark clock tower.

The Beacon Journal received a copy of the plan after filing a public records request with the city. Akron officials have yet to weight in on the proposal…
