Think you’re having a bad day? Tiffany Harrison might beg to differ. She was hit by a plane in a freak accident while walking in the park. The impact fractured her spine and broke her pelvis, but she’s in recovery after surgery.
How does that even happen?
A man was piloting a homebuilt ultralight airplane when his engine died. The 60-something man radioed, “I’ve lost power, declaring an emergency.” He added, “I don’t think I’m going to make it, uh, I’m going… I’m going to pick a field here.”
The field he chose happened to be the soccer field at a park in Long Beach, California. It’s unclear whether he saw a woman walking her dog on the field. Perhaps he did and hoped she’d hear him and get out of his airplane’s way. Unfortunately, Tiffany Harrison is deaf.
Her partner, Veronica Barrera, was waiting in the car while Harrison walked the dog. Barrera admits her “heart dropped” when she saw the plane closing in. “That plane hit her so fast.”
Officials confirm crash details
The Long Beach Fire Department stated, “When units arrived, they found one small aircraft on its belly with broken landing gears.” It added, “The plane’s fuselage was intact. When the plane landed, it collided with a pedestrian in the park. Units assisted with removing the pilot, an elderly male, from the airplane and transported him via paramedics to a local area hospital.”…
