CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – A UVA professor of hip-hop is sharing his story with rap, hip-hop, and academia in his upcoming book ‘Being Dope: Hip-Hop and Theory through Mix-Tape Memoir.’
“A lot of times when people think about hip-hop, they think about it as pure expression,” said A.D. Carson, associate professor of hip-hop and Shannon Fellow in the Center for Advanced Research at UVA. “The argument that I’m making with the book is that it might be expression, but it’s also theory.”
