HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Just over two dozen inmates at the Christian County Jail have decided to be baptized, which was made possible at the facility through the help of volunteers from local churches and jail chaplains. In addition, several inmates participated in reentry courses this month, all in an effort to reduce recidivism.
The jail offers various religious programming to inmates on a weekly basis by collaborating with various churches in Christian County. As a result, 25 individuals who are currently incarcerated made the personal decision to be baptized. This process is something that Jailer Adam Smith is able to accommodate at the facility when requested by inmates, with 23 baptisms recently taking place over the summer in June.
“These individuals opted for baptism to lay a strong foundation for their life after incarceration,” said a statement from the Christian County Jail. “We appreciate the many community partners who contribute daily to transforming the future of our community.”
Also in October, inmates were able to participate in class series which covered a wide range of topics the prepare for reentry, teaching them how to gain access to essential resources, employment support, and local services.
