Jamaicans in Polk County worry about relatives after Hurricane Melissa, make plans for relief

As the leader of a nonprofit organization, Dr. Shirley White-Campbell is always prepared to rally responses to a natural disaster in any part of the world.

It would be customary for Rapha Hands Extended Community Outreach Missions to organize relief for Jamaica following the devastation wrought by Hurricane Melissa. In this case, White-Campbell also has personal motivation.

A native of Jamaica, White-Campbell has many relatives living in the Caribbean island nation – one brother, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. As of the morning of Oct. 30, she had not heard from them since the hurricane struck two days earlier as the fiercest recorded cyclone ever to strike Jamaica.
