Delaware State Police have arrested Francisco Mendez-Peralta, 38, of Chestertown, Maryland. He is accused of involvement in a fatal hit-and-run in Middletown on October 30, 2025. The incident happened at about 7:50 p.m. on Middletown Warwick Road, about a mile north of Strawberry Lane. A Chevrolet Equinox struck a 62-year-old man riding an E-Bike. The driver left the scene. The victim was airlifted to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld until his family is notified.
The crash led to a 3.5-hour closure of the roadway. The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the scene. Surveillance footage from the Middletown Police Department helped identify the suspect vehicle.
