Eugene School District 4J cuts 4 assistant superintendent roles amid budget crisis

Four assistant superintendent positions at Eugene School District 4J will be eliminated at the end of the fiscal year as the the district tightens its budget, according to an Oct. 27 email sent to staff by Superintendent Miriam Miralles Mickelson.

4J will be reconfiguring its executive leadership and will have one assistant superintendent instead of four. That position will oversee all student programs, including teaching and learning and special education, as well as human resources.

“This is one of the most difficult decisions I’ve had to make,” Mickelson wrote. “Each of these remarkable leaders has given more than thirty years of their lives to public education—many of those years right here in Eugene School District 4J. Their stories are woven into the fabric of this district. Some began as classified employees, others as classroom teachers, and each has grown through dedication, compassion, and a steadfast belief in the power of public education.”…
