OSP Log: Man, 26, loses life merging onto I-5 at Woodburn

SUNDAY, OCT. 26

• 2:39 p.m. — Troopers responded to a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near Woodburn that took the life of Didier Lair Fuentes, 26, of Keizer. OSP’s preliminary investigation indicated that Fuentes was attempting to merge onto the southbound lanes from Highway 214 in a Chevrolet Silverado when he maneuvered hard left across the southbound lanes of travel. The Chevrolet entered the path of a southbound semi-truck driven by a 36-year-old Surrey, British Columbia, man, resulting in a side-impact collision. The collision caused the commercial vehicle to jackknife across the interstate toward the median, striking and dragging a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 63-year-old Keizer man into the median. A southbound Toyota Matrix driven by a 34-year-old Murphy, Idaho, woman narrowly missed the involved vehicles but was struck by debris from the wreckage. Fuentes was declared deceased after being transported to an area hospital. The Toyota’s driver reportedly suffered minor injuries. The drivers of the semi-truck and Jeep were reportedly not injured…
