Starting November 1, 2025, the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) will begin issuing citations for speeding at 10 intersections in downtown Honolulu. These safety cameras have been used for red-light violations since November 2022. They will now issue citations, not just warnings, to drivers who exceed posted speed limits.
The intersections include Likelike Highway, School Street, Vineyard Boulevard, Pali Highway, Ward Avenue, King Street, Piʻikoi Street, S Beretania Street, Kapiʻolani Boulevard, and McCully Street. Speed limits at these locations range from 25 to 35 mph.
Since March 2025, the cameras have sent over 500,000 warnings to vehicle owners for speeding. The last group of 21,000 warnings will be mailed in the coming week. After November 1, new violations will result in official citations sent to registered vehicle owners…
