Relief effort brings 8,500 pounds of food to Albany Airport for unpaid federal workers

Albany, NY (WRGB) — As the federal government shutdown reaches its 30th day, local leaders say essential workers at Albany International Airport are continuing to report for duty without pay amid mounting financial strain.

Inside the airport’s baggage claim Thursday, United Way of the Greater Capital Region and the Regional Food Bank distributed 8,500 pounds of food, along with household items and gift cards, to roughly 250 TSA agents, air traffic controllers and other essential airport staff.
