“Ridiculousness” Gets the Axe, But Not Before a Marathon Send-Off
Fans of viral video mishaps and Rob Dyrdek’s commentary will have to find a new way to get their fix, as MTV’s long-running clip show, Ridiculousness, has reportedly been canceled. Multiple media outlets confirmed the news on Friday.
While the show is no longer in production, viewers won’t see it disappear from their screens entirely just yet. Previously produced episodes, of which there are over 1,700, are slated to air through 2026, ensuring a healthy backlog of content for the foreseeable future.
Host Rob Dyrdek, a former professional skateboarder, reportedly earned a minimum of $32.5 million from his role on the show. The cancellation comes amidst the ongoing Paramount Skydance merger, which may be prompting strategic programming shifts.
Ridiculousness first premiered in 2011, quickly becoming a staple of MTV’s programming with its format of Dyrdek reacting to internet videos featuring stunts gone wrong and other viral content. The show has become such a significant part of MTV’s schedule that, according to reports, a 12-hour marathon of Ridiculousness aired on Friday, with additional marathons planned for the weekend, perhaps as a final hurrah for the prolific series.
