Man charged in Rochester shooting that left victim seriously hurt

Rochester, N.Y. — A suspect is in custody in connection to a shooting earlier this month on the city’s southwest side.

Marcus Canady, 55, of Rochester struck a man in his 20s with a revolver before shooting him in the torso during an altercation on Jefferson Avenue the night of Oct. 2, according to the Rochester Police Department. The victim suffered significant head trauma and was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. His condition was upgraded to stable the next day following a prolonged surgery, police said.

Canady was arrested Monday when members of the United States Marshal’s Task Force spotted him leaving a house on Shelter Street, according to police. A .38-caliber revolver found inside the home during a search.

Police said Canady is charged with first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He was taken to Monroe County Jail to await arraignment…
