Former St. John Fisher student arrested for violating campus ban stemming from 2024 attack

Pittsford, N.Y. (WHAM) — A former St. John Fisher University student who was banned from the campus after attacking an employee last year has been arrested once again.

Shalom Mathews, now 20, of Brighton, is charged with criminal contempt and trespassing after he was spotted driving on campus Friday morning, according to Deputy David Marcucci of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. The criminal complaint obtained by 13WHAM says a security guard told the sheriff’s office that a license plate reader detected Mathews’ vehicle. Marcucci said Mathews was on school property for a brief amount of time but never got out of his car.

The incident was also a violation of a stay-away order of protection that was issued for the college staff member who was attacked by Mathews inside their officer at the Wegmans School of Pharmacy Feb. 28, 2024, according to Marcucci. Mathews tried to stab the victim, who still works for the school, after expressing fears his father would kill him for his failing grades.
