Syracuse aquarium still faces $2M funding gap ahead of July 2026 opening

The countdown is on for the opening of the new aquarium in Syracuse’s Inner Harbor, set for July 2026.

However, the project is still $2 million short of its funding target, a gap that Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon hopes will be filled by private donations.

“We raised over $4 million for the aquarium, about $3 million has already been transferred into the county, or is close to,” McMahon said. “These pledges are multi-year pledges, right. Some in ’25, some in ’26.”…
