Bridgeland made history Saturday morning at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
The girls cross country team claimed the program’s first state championship, winning the Class 6A title with a score of 38. The Bears edged out 2024 state champion Flower Mound (41), and Katy (90) and The Woodlands (124) finished third and fourth, respectively, to give the Houston area a prominent showing on the 5,000-meter course.
Senior Rowan Saacke led the charge for Bridgeland with a fifth-place finish at 17 minutes, 40 seconds. Junior Hope Smith (6th, 17:44.6), senior Susana Rawls (9th, 17:59.9), senior Alexandra Montgomery (22nd, 18:23.1) and senior Haley Hill (27th, 18:29.2) rounded out the Bears’ point-scoring runners. Juniors Kate Garrison (35th, 18:34.4) and Brynlee Weston (77th, 19:10.6) also competed for Bridgeland, which finished as the runner-up to Flower Mound a year ago…
