New battle brewing over the name of city’s affordable senior housing

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The old Ramada hotel on the east side of Albuquerque will soon be affordable housing for seniors 55 years old and over. The incoming complex was known as Juniper Flats, but now the name may also be under construction.

Mayor Tim Keller’s administration announced plans to rename Juniper Flats to Gateway Senior, keeping the 204-unit complex in line with the rest of its Gateway system, which is focused on helping people transition out of homelessness.

“This housing for seniors is really going to be connected with our gateway system in terms that we want to ensure that services and support that will be added to the facility continue to be attached to the services that we have elsewhere in the system,” said a city official during an October council meeting…
