Durham’s Jubilee Home Opens as First Lady Anna Stein and NCDHHS Launch Facility for Women Transitioning from Incarceration

Opening its doors in Durham, the Jubilee Home stands as a new haven for women recently released from prison or jail, offering a robust support system designed to ease the difficult transition back into society, with First Lady of North Carolina Anna Stein and the NC Department of Health and Human Services leading the ribbon-cutting ceremony, according to NCDHHS.

Celebrated for its aim to connect those reentering their communities with critical resources such as mental health services, housing assistance, and employment guidance, the home joins eleven organizations awarded funding through NCDHHS, as part of an initiative to bolster services for those tangled in the justice system, dealing with mental health needs or substance use disorders, yet this is a drop in a larger ocean of over 50 reentry and diversion programs currently supported by NCDHHS across the state, “Ensuring people have the support they need when they are released from incarceration is critical for their long-term success,” NC Health and Human Services Secretary Dev Sangvai said, emphasizing the importance of these programs in preventing individuals from falling back into the justice system.

The Jubilee Home provides personalized care with daily support from a full-time, on-site Peer Navigator team—individuals who have experience with the justice system and help residents adjust after release.
