Cosumnes River College Honors Native American Heritage and Local Tribal History This November

Cosumnes River College in Sacramento is observing National Native American Heritage Month this November. The college is honoring the cultures, histories, and resilience of Native American Nations. It has released an official Land Acknowledgement Statement, developed with local Tribes, to recognize the Miwok and Nisenan people as the original stewards of the land.

The statement notes the ongoing presence and sovereignty of the Miwok and Nisenan. It also states that California has over 110 federally recognized Indian Tribes, making it the most tribally diverse state in the U.S.
