For students at Rockport-Fulton High School, learning recently went far beyond the classroom walls this month. Students from two engineering classes had the opportunity to experience a full day of hands-on discovery at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC), and the impact was nothing short of inspiring.
The trip came together after a chance encounter over the summer. During the Fourth of July Art Show, local educator Martha McLeod reconnected with an old friend – Mayra Alvarado Ramirez, Director of the Islander Office of Student Excellence Experience in the College of Engineering and Computer Science at TAMU-CC.
The two had previously collaborated when McLeod was a full-time science teacher, and this reunion sparked a new idea: bringing students face-to-face with real-world engineering opportunities.
