Police increase Halloween DUI patrols to protect young trick-or-treaters

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Children walking are three times more likely to be fatally injured by a vehicle on Halloween night than on any other day of the year, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services.

That statistic is driving local law enforcement to increase traffic and DUI units, as well as staff overtime patrols as trick-or-treaters make their rounds through neighborhoods.

“Children move unpredictably on this one night of year, and they’re very excited, so they’re out in the street and there’s a lot of factors that come into play,” said Yomy Castillo, an Injury Prevention Program Manager with Arizona DHS…
