Jailer, inmate charged with felonies

A jailer within the Alamance County sheriff’s office has been charged with felonies related to drugs within the jail and apparently having sex with her accomplice, a prisoner incarcerated while awaiting trial on a 2020 murder charge.

Multiple felonies were lodged against Alberta Hamm, black female, 40, of Burlington. She is charged with one count felony sex act- government institution employee; one count felony possession of controlled substance on jail premises; one count felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and distribute a schedule III narcotic; and one count felony conspiracy to sell and deliver controlled substance (Schedule III); and one count felony providing contraband to an inmate.

Hamm’s arrest is apparently part of the result of an investigation that began more than a year ago. According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, investigators became aware of the possible presence of contraband and narcotics within the jail in September 2024…
