KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Tennessee’s Edwin Spillman is quickly making a name for himself on the Vol squad, but getting to Rocky Top was anything but easy for the linebacker. His bio might call Nashville home, but he was born more than 5,000 miles away.
“My original name is Abdul Aman Gi Bindu,” Spillman told WVLT’s Brittany Tarwater in an exclusive sit-down. “I’m originally from Sierra Leone, West Africa.”
Spillman himself will tell you there’s more to his name than just playing football, even if football has played a key part in turning him into the person he is today…
