In a newly released performance audit, the Massachusetts Office of the State Auditor has given a clean bill of health to the state’s primary affordable housing financier on key compliance checks, but raised concerns over lapses in monitoring a program designed to prioritize housing for vulnerable residents.
The audit, published Thursday by State Auditor Diana DiZoglio, examined the Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency (MassHousing) for the two-year period ending June 30, 2024. It focused on whether the agency adhered to federal and state guidelines for property reviews and oversight of specialized affordable units.
No major violations were uncovered in the core areas tested, signaling strong operational compliance amid ongoing housing affordability challenges across the Commonwealth.
