Rich history of Appleton ballet school takes center stage in new museum exhibit

APPLETON (WLUK) — Leap back in time with a trip to the new Makaroff School of Ballet exhibit at the Appleton History Museum.

Titled “Révérence”, the display celebrates the legacy of the Makaroff family and their decades of contributions to the arts and culture in the Fox Cities.

The story begins prior to World War II, following the Makaroffs’ remarkable journey through the hardships of wartime Europe, survival through concentration camps and a path to a better life in America, with the help of legendary actor and comedian Bob Hope. It continues with the New York City courtship and marriage of Nikolai and Juanita Makaroff and their founding of the Makaroff School of Ballet in Appleton — Juanita’s hometown…
