Midwest grocery stores stepping up to fill the SNAP gap

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Grocery stores across the Midwest are finding new ways to support families facing food insecurity this month.

With food banks bracing for record demand, Hy-Vee is offering free meals for kids and low-cost dinner options for adults at its store locations next week. Shoppers can also purchase $5 or $10 food bank bundles stocked with pantry staples that go directly to local food shelves.

“Well, we know that this is a really difficult time for a lot of different people in our communities,” said Zach Tecklenburg, Hy-Vee’s Media Relations Manager. “These communities have been there for Hy-Vee for the last 95 years, they’ve supported us, they’ve kept us going, so when there are difficult times like this, we like to turn around and do the same for them. We step up and help out the best way we know how, and that’s keeping people fed.”…
