Former Fox 2 Anchor Angelynn Mock Charged with Mother’s Murder in Wichita
WICHITA, KS – Angelynn Mock, a familiar face to St. Louis viewers during her tenure at Fox 2, is now facing first-degree murder charges following the fatal stabbing of her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers. The 47-year-old former television anchor was apprehended Friday morning in Wichita, Kansas.
Authorities responded to a residence just after 8 a.m., where they reportedly found Mock standing outside, allegedly covered in blood. Inside, officers discovered Anita Avers with multiple stab wounds.
Avers was transported to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Mock, who also received medical attention for unspecified reasons, was subsequently taken into custody and charged.
She is currently being held at Sedgwick County Jail on a $1 million bond.
Mock worked at Fox 2 from 2011 to 2015. Her professional background in journalism is still highlighted on her online profiles.
A neighbor, Alyssa Castro, recounted to KAKE that Mock approached her and her boyfriend’s vehicle, “with like blood, like her hands were filled, her body was filled with blood, asking to call 911.” Castro stated that Mock used her boyfriend’s phone before returning to the residence. “She seemed scared,” Castro recalled, adding that Mock appeared “pretty shaken up” before running off.
Anita Avers was a marriage and family therapist at Wichita Counseling Professionals, according to her husband. Social media posts from both mother and daughter reportedly depicted a close relationship, with photos showing them embracing and Avers’ Facebook profile picture featuring Mock reporting live from a baseball game.
