Peter Criss Announces New Album Weeks After Ace Frehley’s Passing
In a poignant turn of events, founding KISS drummer Peter Criss is stepping back into the musical spotlight with a new self-titled solo album, set to be released on December 19th. This announcement comes just weeks after the sudden death of his former KISS bandmate, Ace Frehley.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s new album marks his first in 18 years, promising a return to his rock-driven roots. A statement from Criss’s official page describes “Peter Criss” as “the Catman’s return to form, and his most rock driven solo album ever.”
The 11-track record boasts an impressive lineup of guest musicians, including John 5, Billy Sheehan, and Paul Shaffer. Fans can pre-order the album on black, silver, and white vinyl, as well as CD and digital download.
Criss initially teased the album earlier this year in a short video message to the “Kiss Army guys,” expressing his excitement and hope that they would enjoy the new music.
Criss, along with Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Ace Frehley, formed KISS in 1973. Throughout the band’s history, Criss experienced several departures and reunions, often stemming from personal differences with Stanley and Simmons. He last left the band in 2004, and “Peter Criss” will be his sixth solo album.
The news of Criss’s new music follows the tragic passing of Ace Frehley on October 16, 2025, due to a stroke. Criss shared a heartfelt tribute to his longtime friend and bandmate, stating, “With a broken heart and deep, deep sadness, my brother Ace Frehley has passed away.
He died peacefully with his family around him. My wife and I were with him to the end as well.
I love you my brother.” He extended his condolences to Frehley’s family and acknowledged the profound impact Ace had on millions of people through his music.
“His legacy will live on in the music industry and in the hearts of the KISS Army,” Criss wrote.
