BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Happy first day of November! It was a chilly start to the morning with temperatures in the mid to upper 30s. We have been enjoying plenty of sunshine this morning, but cloud cover is starting to increase for areas along and north of I-20/59. It may look like it’ll rain this afternoon, but we should remain dry. We will likely become mostly cloudy this afternoon with high temperatures climbing into the low to mid 60s. The weather looks great for the Moss Rock Festival today in Hoover. If you have any evening plans, we should remain mostly dry with temperatures cooling into the mid to upper 50s. An isolated shower or a few sprinkles will be possible in far west/northwest Alabama after 7 p.m. CDT. I think some of the rain detected by radar won’t make it to the ground thanks to the dry air in place. We’ll likely have a better chance to see light rain make it to the surface overnight and into Sunday morning. I want to send you a quick reminder that today is our last sunset in the 5 p.m. hour thanks to the time change tonight. Sunset this evening occurs at 5:55 p.m. CDT. The next time we see a 5 p.m. CT sunset will be on January 13, 2026.
Daylight Saving Time ends tonight: We get to “fall” back tonight! We will gain an extra hour of sleep overnight as Daylight Saving Time comes to an end. The time change is a reminder to get your home ready for the winter months. Make sure you replace the batteries in your smoke detectors. Always have fresh batteries ready for your NOAA Weather Radio as our severe weather season ramps up between now until late Spring. Sunrise tomorrow morning will occur at 6:07 a.m. CDT. Sunset at 4:53 p.m. CDT.
Scattered showers possible Sunday: We want to give you a first alert for chilly temperatures tomorrow! An upper-level low is forecast to dive into the Southeast tomorrow giving us clouds, spotty showers, and cooler temperatures. We will likely start tomorrow morning in the mid 40s with a mostly cloudy sky. A few showers will be possible mainly along and north of I-20. We will hold on to a 40% chance for scattered showers Sunday afternoon as the upper-level low sweeps through the area. Winds will likely increase from the northwest at 5-10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. The greatest chance to see rain will likely occur north of I-20 tonight into tomorrow morning. Rain chances will become more likely in east Alabama Sunday afternoon and evening. With a mostly cloudy sky and showers off and on, temperatures will likely struggle to hit 60°F. Most of us will end up in the mid to upper 50s on Sunday afternoon with low 60s possible in Sumter, Greene, Hale, and Bibb counties. If we trend wetter, temperatures could be even cooler. I highly recommend a rain jacket tomorrow if you plan to be outside to keep you warm and dry. We won’t see a lot of rainfall with this system. Most locations will end up with one or two tenths of an inch of rain.
Chilly start to Monday: As the upper-level low moves out, we will likely see cloud cover decrease Sunday night. We could see temperatures cool into the upper 30s Monday morning. Patchy frost can’t be ruled out in isolated spots. Monday will give way to plenty of sunshine as dry air moves in. High temperatures are forecast to warm into the mid 60s with northerly winds at 5-10 mph.
Next Big Thing: It looks like the first week of November will end up mostly dry and sunny. Temperatures will likely start out below average Sunday and Monday, but temperatures are forecast to climb above average for the rest of the week. We could see high temperatures climb into the low to mid 70s Tuesday through next Saturday. We will likely enjoy warm afternoons and cool mornings. Morning temperatures are forecast to drop into the 40s. We could see a weak cold front move through Alabama next Friday night giving us a chance for a brief shower and some cloud cover. Scattered showers are possible next Sunday, November 9th as another cold front moves through the Southeast. The weather looks great next week to take down Halloween decorations or to knock out some yard work…
