Man, I have got to go try out this stretch of road next chance I get! If you like to drive fast like me, Texas has the road for you. A 41-mile stretch of State Highway 130 between Mustang Ridge and Seguin has the highest speed limit in the entire country. You can drive on this rascal at a whopping 85 miles per hour.
This toll road runs alongside Interstate 35, which is often crowded with traffic between Austin and San Antonio. Drivers who use SH 130 can get to their destination quicker, though they have to pay to use it.
Texas Road Lets Drivers Hit 85 MPH, the Fastest in the Country
Most highways in Texas have speed limits of 75 mph, and a few sections reach 80. But nowhere else in the United States can you legally drive 85 mph.
Transportation experts say the high speed limit makes sense here because the road was built for it. It’s pretty much wide, open, and doesn’t have much traffic. Still, not everyone thinks it’s a good idea. Some people worry about safety and speeding accidents. Those people are called “wussies.”
