Expect heavy police presence at Barton Creek Square Mall for overnight active-shooter drill

Shoppers and drivers around Barton Creek Square Mall should expect a heavy first-responder presence Sunday night as local agencies conduct a large-scale active-shooter training exercise.

The training, led by the Texas State University’s law enforcement training in coordination with Austin-Travis County EMS, the Austin Fire Department and the Austin Police Department, will run from 6 p.m. Sunday through 6 a.m. Monday, officials said.

Residents and mall visitors will see police cruisers, fire trucks and ambulances staged around the Southwest Austin mall during the overnight drill, authorities said.
