DETROIT ~ Late last week, Health Alliance Plan, Molina Healthcare, and Meridian Health Plan announced that they would drop individual coverage for 200,000 Michiganders as insurance premium prices rise. Mark Fendrick, professor of internal medicine in the School of Medicine at the University of Michigan, told WJR that open enrollment for the individual market coinciding with the ongoing federal shutdown forced insurance companies to make decisions pretty quickly” on whether to continue in this market or exit altogether.
