KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The City of Knoxville said it’s seeing an influx of calls to East Tennessee 211 amid the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program benefit freeze due to the federal government shutdown.
In a tweet Monday, the city said calls to 211 are up 21% compared to this time in 2024. Requests for food resources are higher than rental assistance for the first time since 2018, the city said.
