Blount County Sheriff’s Office claims Maryville man rammed cruisers during chase

BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A Maryville man faces many charges after a pursuit where he allegedly almost struck a pedestrian, drove through several yards and rammed two sheriff’s cruisers, the Blount County Sheriff’s Office said.

Shortly before midnight on Saturday, a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck drove onto a basketball court at Atchley Apartments and almost hit a pedestrian, BCSO said. He drove away “in a reckless manner,” and the Maryville Police Department began a pursuit.

The truck driver left city limits, so BCSO took over the chase. According to law enforcement, the driver was “swerving erratically,” nearly hitting oncoming vehicles, including BCSO cruisers.

He then drove south on U.S. 411 while running red lights before turning onto Clover Hill Road and continuing onto Morganton Road, BCSO said. Law enforcement tried to stop him with spike strips, but the driver evaded them, driving through multiple yards on Moddy Grove Lane until hitting a tree, BCSO stated…
